Privacy Policy

Last updated: March 29, 2026

TaxPalette ("we," "us," or "our") operates taxpalette.com and provides international tax tools and related services. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and how we protect it. By using TaxPalette, you agree to the practices described here.

1. Information We Collect

Account Information

When you create a TaxPalette account, we collect your name, email address, and a hashed version of your password. We never store your password in plain text.

Tax Tool Data

When you use Pro tools, the data you enter (such as earnings & profits figures, PTEP balances, foreign tax credit amounts, and ownership structures) is stored in our database so you can save and return to your work. This data is associated with your account and encrypted at rest.

Tax Identification Numbers: We do not store taxpayer identification numbers (TINs, EINs, SSNs) on our servers. If you choose to include a tax ID in a PDF export, it is applied to the document client-side at the time of download and never transmitted to or stored by TaxPalette.

Payment Information

Subscription payments are processed by Stripe. We do not store your credit card number or payment details. Stripe provides us with limited billing information (last four digits, expiration date, billing name) for display purposes only. Stripe's privacy policy governs the handling of your payment data.

Usage Data

We collect standard server logs including IP addresses, browser type, pages visited, and timestamps. We use Google Analytics to understand aggregate usage patterns. This data does not identify you personally and is used solely to improve the platform.

2. How We Use Your Information

  • To provide, operate, and maintain your account and Pro tool access
  • To process subscription payments and manage billing
  • To send transactional emails (account confirmation, password reset, subscription notices)
  • To enforce our data retention policy tied to your subscription status
  • To improve TaxPalette tools, features, and user experience
  • To comply with legal obligations and protect our legal rights

We do not sell your personal information to third parties. We do not use your tax tool data for any purpose other than providing the service to you.

3. Data Retention

Your account data and Pro tool projects are retained for as long as your subscription remains active. If your subscription expires or is cancelled:

  • Your data enters a 90-day grace period during which it remains accessible in read-only mode.
  • If you resubscribe within 90 days, full access is restored immediately.
  • After 90 days without resubscription, your Pro tool data is permanently deleted from our servers.

You may request deletion of your account and all associated data at any time by contacting us at privacy@taxpalette.com.

4. Data Security

We take data security seriously. Our security measures include:

  • AES-256-GCM encryption for sensitive data at rest
  • TLS encryption for all data in transit (HTTPS)
  • Hashed passwords using bcrypt
  • Session tokens hashed before storage, with idle and absolute expiry
  • Rate limiting on authentication endpoints to prevent brute-force attacks
  • Audit logging of significant account and data events

While we implement strong security practices, no system is completely immune to security risks. We encourage you to use a strong, unique password for your TaxPalette account.

5. Third-Party Services

We use the following third-party services in operating TaxPalette:

  • Stripe — payment processing. Subject to Stripe's Privacy Policy.
  • Amazon Web Services (AWS) — cloud hosting and email delivery. Subject to AWS's Privacy Policy.
  • Google Analytics — aggregate usage analytics. Subject to Google's Privacy Policy.

These services may collect information as part of providing their services to us. We do not control their privacy practices.

6. Cookies

TaxPalette uses a secure, HTTP-only session cookie to keep you logged in. We also use Google Analytics cookies for aggregate usage tracking. We do not use advertising or tracking cookies. You may disable cookies in your browser settings, but doing so will prevent you from staying logged in.

7. Your Rights

You have the right to:

  • Access the personal information we hold about you
  • Correct inaccurate information in your account
  • Request deletion of your account and associated data
  • Export your Pro tool data before deleting your account

To exercise any of these rights, contact us at privacy@taxpalette.com.

8. Children's Privacy

TaxPalette is intended for use by adults and tax professionals. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under the age of 18. If you believe a minor has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.

9. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. Continued use of TaxPalette after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy. For material changes, we will notify active subscribers by email.
